Identify the inspection limits
Confirm the upstream and downstream structures, pipe run IDs, laterals to include, inspection direction and connection points. Construction drawings should show the segments to be inspected and any special access constraints.
Plan safe site access
Document site entry, traffic-control needs, utility conflicts, work windows and restricted areas. Follow applicable safety procedures and use appropriately qualified personnel for any controlled entry or traffic operations.
Determine cleaning requirements
Debris, standing water and deposits may obscure pipe condition. Ask whether sewer flushing is required and whether debris disposal or separate vacuum equipment is included. Cleaning requirements vary by owner and site.
Confirm reporting deliverables
Check whether the owner requires coded observations, video files, still photos, a defect summary, manhole references and portal uploads. City requirements can differ; use the current project specifications rather than a generic reporting checklist.
Schedule post-construction comparisons
Where required, conduct post-work CCTV on the corresponding pipe runs and compare findings with the pre-construction baseline. Keep video naming and pipe identifiers consistent so both surveys can be matched.
