01

Confirm the governing test method

Before booking, obtain the current municipal or engineer specification and identify the pipe segments, lengths, diameters, materials, test pressures, permitted time losses and required documentation. Do not assume one general test method applies to every project.

02

Provide access and site conditions

Confirm which manholes or access points are ready, whether the test section is isolated, whether trenches and backfill are complete to the required stage, and if traffic control or special access is required.

03

Plan for safety

Compressed-air testing has stored-energy hazards. Only trained personnel following the specified procedure should set up, monitor or release pressure. Keep nonessential workers clear and do not enter or approach pressurized test arrangements outside the approved plan.

04

How failures are handled

A failed test indicates the section did not meet the specified criterion under the test conditions; it does not alone locate the defect. Contractors may need further investigation, remedial work and a new test before acceptance.
